Michelin. Is everything going to cost more now?

SHORT ANSWER: NO. That's why prices aren't going up...
THE LONG ONE IS BELOW....

we have something to tell you, and we will start with the question some of you will ask straight away: no, nothing here is getting more expensive.

Now for the reason: the Alte Mühle is in the MICHELIN Guide! We could hardly believe it ourselves. We have not been given a star and we never applied for one. Being listed means that somebody from the guide came by, had a look around and thought this house was worth a mention. For a small family hotel on the banks of the Ahr that is a small celebration, and we raised a glass to it.

What surprised us most was what it actually says. Not a word about room categories. Instead it says that Sepp grew up on a farm here in the valley. That he climbed in Nepal with Hans Kammerlander, who grew up a few hairpin bends further up in Ahornach. And that I moved here from Florence, for him and for this old mill. Reading your own story like that is a strange and rather lovely feeling at the same time.

There is one detail in there that many of you probably do not know: the water running through the Mühlbadl today comes from the same mountain stream that once turned the millstones.

Nothing else has changed. Sepp is still in the kitchen first thing in the morning, I still talk too much at reception, and the prices stay where they are.

Our stars are the ones above the valley, and those have always been free.

If you feel like it, you are welcome to add your own experience on the MICHELIN page.
