Winter fun

Winter holidays in Valle Aurina

Where snow calls home

Some people claim that the reason why the people of the Aurina valley are so physically fit is because of the tons of snow that descend from November to Easter. And at the Hotel Alte Mühle, we too have a favourite pastime winter after winter: shovelling snow. Thanks to its location on the main ridge of the Alps, Campo Tures and the entire Valle Aurina are a genuine snowparadise. This makes our region perfect for skiing, cross-country skiing or for a snowshoe hike. The Speikboden and Klausberg ski resorts are only a stone’s throw away and offer wonderful powder snow and modern lifts. There are 50 fantastic kilometres of cross-country skiing trails waiting for you in the high-altitude Riva di Tures. And the most beautiful winter hikes can be enjoyed right in front of the Alte Mühle.

Snowshoe hiking

Mountains. Winter. Freedom.

Freshly fallen snow blows silently from the branches of the fir tree. All around is nothing but whiteness and silence. Snowshoe hiking brings you into such close contact with winter in Valle Aurina. Once a week, Sepp, your host, takes you up into the mountains. You hike uphill in the silence of the mountains. No hurrying, just peace and quiet all around. Experience the scenic beauty of the quiet side of the South Tyrolean winter and get closer to nature. There are many winter hiking trails and opportunities for snowshoe hiking all around our house, many of the routes are also suitable for beginners. If you like, you can hire snowshoes from us at the Alte Mühle and explore the area.

Winter activities

Tobogganing

Could there be any more fun than tobogganing? Hop on a toboggan with us and speed down into the valley! Winter sunshine or floodlight – every village in Valle Aurina boasts several toboggan runs of all levels of difficulty. This winter activity is especially fun with family and friends. Or with host Sepp, who will teach you how to win the next toboggan race for sure.

Ice skating

Let us take you out on the ice! There are several possibilities to let your inner ice princess out in Valle Aurina. The Campo Tures ice rink is only a few minutes’ walk from Hotel Alte Mühle, where you can do pirouettes or enjoy a round of curling. Further into the valley you will find beautiful lakes that turn into a natural ice rinks on frosty days.

Horseback riding and carriage rides

Valle Aurina is a “horse valley”. In the wild east of South Tyrol, as the area likes to be called, there are plenty of opportunities for horseback riding or carriage rides. Jump into the saddle and gallop through the snow or enjoy a sleigh ride through the countryside pulled by Haflinger horses. How romantic!
